what are you worth?
the people you work with ... what are they worth?
this morning i was giving a talk on one key in leading people. that one key is all about making sure you're interested in people more than the bottom line. the bottom line being money and budgets.
taking the time to listen and encourage those you lead / work with / work for ... can transform:
1. the work place - actually making it a place of enjoyment - a place where people look forward to going to each day - a place where productivity flourishes - a place where morale is consistently up - perhaps a hiatus to the struggles in life.
2. the worker - giving each employee a greater sense of worth - giving them a greater goal to produce and become 'company' people - where workers perform gladly beyond mediocrity - employees/volunteers from just adopting policy to owning the policies let alone the vision and values of the organization.
here are the top 8 things people in various organizations feel what matters most to them.
they want the ability to:
a. learn and grow in their jobs
b. take on challenges the org. faces
c. work with good people
d. feel they are valued
e. work with good bosses
f. recognized for their contributions
g. feel they are in control of the work they are tasked to do.
h. have flexibility in their hours and dress
that's it. do you see money anywhere? nope.
while it is at times ... a real good incentive, people want to know that they have what it takes.
people want to know that they are of worth and that others recognize it too.
who do you work / volunteer with that could use a boost?
what is one thing you could do or say to encourage them?
do that.
